19,000 Tons in 17 Weeks…
An innovative team of experts creates a synergy in our company that cannot be duplicated in the industry. This project is an impressive example of how the Midwest Steel Team is completely unique in our ability to complete fast track schedules of any magnitude. The Rail Car Manufacturing Facility is 2.5 million square feet and approximately one mile long.
Initially, our scope of work included 16,000 tons of structural steel erection and installation of metal deck and approximately six miles of crane rail. We also completed the fabrication and erection of the miscellaneous iron, stairs, rails and concrete embed material.
A comprehensive pre-planning phase months before standing the first piece of steel and our diverse project experience in the field is what sets us apart. It provides us with the wisdom to provide solutions for every project challenge. With open communication through weekly collaboration not a single detail slips through the cracks.
In the first sixteen weeks of erection we handled 26 drawing revisions that added 2,000 tons of steel to our scope and we still maintained the schedule. To date, our scope includes 21,000 tons of steel. Between the local craftspeople and our national labor pool, we were able to maintain peak manpower of 140 Ironworkers and Operators.
Every time we meet with an Architect, Engineer or a Construction Management team and we ask what is most important to them, they respond by saying that what it comes down to is who can handle the changes with the least amount of resistance, with the best solutions and still maintain the schedule and project safety. Our execution continues to exceed the expectations of the Project Team.
