Midwest Steel was honored to erect the steel framing for one of the nation’s top 10 largest health care projects in Owensboro, Kentucky. The Owensboro Medical Health System’s state-of-the-art hospital and medical office building facilities system ranks as the second-largest construction project in the state of Kentucky and the largest construction project of any type or industry in Owensboro’s history.
The Owensboro Medical Health System is also the largest project – and one of the first – to use an Integrated Project Delivery Team (IPDT), meaning all parties involved with the project are under one agreement, working together. With high community interest in the project’s completion, an emphasis was made on partnering with local contractors, MBE, DBE and the Owensboro Chamber of Commerce. Midwest Steel actively participated in the building’s curvature design with 4D animation of the erection plan.
Midwest Steel provided the fabrication and erection of structural steel for both the nine-story 750,000-square foot hospital and the four-story 220,000-sqaure foot medical office building. The project wasn't just a building project; it was a chance to rethink health care. By design, the front of the hospital serves as a central hub for the public. The medical building, adjacent to the new hospital, is home to world-class physicians and a state-of-the-art auditorium. The project has had considerable economic impact; the construction phase created nearly 1,000 jobs and provided $450 million in new output for the region and $139 million in additional earnings for the region.
